Today is
Sunday 13th October. I know I
said I’d catch up with my posts but I’ve been too busy to sit down, sort my
photos, write a post & publish it.
The Odyssey
Overland journey officially ended 1 week ago on Sunday 6th October
at Raffles with a Singapore Sling. I
then spent Monday to Wednesday saying goodbye to friends as they left Singapore
for various destinations.
Dave & I. The last two. Dave had treated himself to 2 nights in a plush hotel. I joined him for an afternoon swim in his hotel pool on Wed 9th Oct. Having one last Singapore Sling. Cheers everyone.
If you’re
doing this trip next year my advice is to organize doing some activities in
Singapore as a group (the Night Safari was fab), before anyone leaves. Then get to the airport as a group &
depart on your various flights within hours of each other to start your next adventure. It was sad hanging around in Singapore
waiting to say final farewells & giving many goodbye hugs to an ever
decreasing number of Odyssey Overlanders.
I flew out
of Singapore on Thursday 10th October having booked a £50 flight to
Jakarta with Valuair! (Yes, spelt like
that). This turned out to be Jet Star
& the flight was fine. I’ve had a
wander around Jakarta & tonight I meet a new group of people as I’ve booked
a 2 week tour through Java finishing in Bali with a company called Intrepid as
recommended by fellow Odyssey Overlanders.
I did not get to a tea plantation with Odyssey but if things go
according to plan I should get to a Java coffee plantation with Intrepid. This tour finishes on Saturday 26th
October.
I’m then in
Bali for 2 more weeks. On 8th
November I fly with Air Asia Bali to Bangkok where I plan to stay in the town
of Kanchanaburi via train to see the Bridge Over The River Kwai.
On Sunday 17th
November I’ve signed up for another Intrepid tour along Thailand’s Andaman
(west) Coast. This finishes in Phuket on
Monday 25th November.
I fly with
Malaysia Airlines from Phuket to Heathrow via a 2h stopover in Kuala Lumpur on
Friday 6th December.
So, I’m
guessing that my next post which will be about Laos will be posted about 28th
October! Sorry for the delay. I have got some great things to mention &
advice for anyone thinking of doing this overland adventure.
No excuses, get at it!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Intrepid trip.
Congratulations Jo on completing this epic, or at least the major part of it. Looking forward to reading the last chapter(s) when you get a chance to post :)
ReplyDeleteThoroughly enjoyed your blog, especially the really practical suggestions you gave. Lorri (Istanbul to Singapore 2014)
